I have been to Queenstown twice now and it is absolutely incredible! There is so much to do in town it’s filled with a number of delicious restaurants. While Queenstown and New Zealand in general can be expensive, we went to a number of great restaurants that didn’t break the bank! Here is a full Queenstown food guide of my favorite places for sit down meals, quick bites, and great happy hour deals!
And don’t forget to pin this for later!

RESTAURANTS
TORO KITCHEN & BAR
Toro Kitchen and Bar is probably my favorite restaurants in Queenstown! We went for breakfast and they had so many good options. I ordered the yogurt and homemade granola with fruit and it was delicious! Max went for the “BIG breakfast” (sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, tomato, mushroom and toro hash) and he loved it. I found the prices to be reasonable so it was a win, win!
FERGBURGER
Fergburger is a staple in Queenstown so you must try it! While they’re known for their traditional burgers, they have a number of options. Since I am not a burger person, I went with a “Bombay Chicken” burger. Truth be told, I could barely eat it – it was coated in sauces and was just way too much. However, Max got the “Southern Swine” burger and it was really good!
WINNIES
Max and I went to Winnie’s for dinner and not only was the food amazing, but the restaurant is located on the second floor so the outdoor patio has a great view of the downtown. We split the Montonara pizza and a greek salad!
QUICK EATS
DEVIL BURGER
So as I have mentioned in my previous post (click here to read!) on Queenstown, one of our waitresses recommended we try Devil Burger! She said she liked it more than Fergburger so we decided we had to check it out. We both got chicken burgers and absolutely loved it! Max ended up going back the next day. You can sit down and eat or take your burgers to go as we did.
THE EXCHANGE CAFE
The Exchange Cafe is a cool coffee spot in town that I highly recommend checking out! It is a great spot to either grab something quick to eat or enjoy a nice breakfast/ lunch with a cup of coffee outside. I got a latte from The Exchange Cafe and it was delish! I went back the next day to grab a salad from the deli and it was super fresh.
DESSERT
COOKIETIME
If you have a sweet tooth, head to CookieTime! They have everything from cookies to ice cream and edible cookie dough. The place is delish so be sure to check it out!
PATAGONIA CHOCOLATES
Patagonia Chocolates is a well known ice cream, coffee, and chocolate place in Queenstown! There is a two story chocolate shop located in the downtown area with a great view of Lake Wakatipu. The chocolate and ice cream is amazing so don’t miss out!
MRS. FERG GELATERIA
While Fergburger is the most well known restaurant in Queenstown, I prefer Mrs. Ferg Gelateria. It is a gelato shop that also offers smoothies and coffee. I have tried all three and have not been disappointed! The first time I was in Queenstown, I had an açaí smoothie from Mrs. Ferg Gelateria pretty much every single morning!
APPETIZERS/ DRINKS
1876 BAR & RESTAURANT
There are so many good happy hour specials in Queenstown but my favorite was 1876 Bar & Restaurant. It is close to downtown and they have great deals! My boyfriend and I got an app and a glass of wine each for about $20 NZD (which was about $14 USD).
THE WINERY
Okay, so I had been dying to go to The Winery! I noticed it on my first trip to Queenstown but but I ran out of time and never made it. I was on a mission to go my second time and let me tell you, it was totally overrated!! The wine was super expensive and just not worth it. I will say, if you go, get the cheese plate because it was amazing!!
THE SUNDECK
Max and I went to the Sundeck which is a rooftop bar to grab a drink before dinner and it was a great spot! The drinks were relatively expensive, however, they weren’t terrible.
Queenstown can be pretty pricey however, there are plenty of options for inexpensive meals! The food is amazing and the scenery is even better at most of these restaurants. Be sure to hit a few of them on your trip to Queenstown and let me know if you enjoy them :)
