Iceland hot springs are incredibly popular, after visiting a few, I can see why. Max and my itinerary included, Laugarvatn Fontana, Myvatn Nature Baths, and The Blue Lagoon. Before going to Iceland, I’d heard a lot of comments about The Blue Lagoon being overrated and, while it’s a total tourist trap, I absolutely loved it!

I have complied a review of the Geothermal Pools I went to, so you know which ones to head to while you’re in Iceland!

And don’t forget to pin this for later!

LAUGARVATN FONTANA

Laugarvatn Fontana is located along the Golden Circle making for an easy stop when making your way along the Golden Circle. It’s much smaller and has a very different vibe than both Myvatn Nature Baths and The Blue Lagoon.

Laugarvatn Fontana are the most affordable geothermal pools we visited. The price generally fluctuates depending on what season it is. It was $35 when we visited in September, which was still considered summer pricing (most expensive).

We also felt like Laugarvatn Fontana was the “Most Spa Like Feeling”award in my book! The shampoo and conditioner smelled amazing! This was a major plus in my book, since you have to fully shower before getting into the pools. The bathrooms are fully stocked with everything you need!

It’s also the smallest geothermal pool we visited throughout our trip! This made it feel like a local scene (even though a tour bus was pulling in as we walked out). It was such a quaint and relaxing experience.

MYVATN NATURE BATHS

The Myvatn Nature Baths are similar to The Blue Lagoon in that the water has the same blue look. It’s located in Myvatn which is northeast Iceland. The Nature Baths are off the ring road which is the main road around Iceland.

Access to Myvatn Nature Baths is $45 but there are a few different packages you can choose from. We chose the basic package which just included entry to the baths. Prices generally fluctuate between the summer and winter.

The Baths are medium sized. Myvatn is much larger than Laugarvtn however, much smaller than The Blue Lagoon!

Myvatn was relatively crowded, but the pools are large, so it didn’t feel overly crowded! The changing room/ shower area is pretty small, so it was crowded in there!

THE BLUE LAGOON

The Blue Lagoon is located about 30 minutes outside of Reykjavik, near the airport. It is the most popular and well known geothermal pool in Iceland!

The Blue Lagoon is the most crowded of all the geothermal pools in Iceland! It’s literally PACKED! While The Blue Lagoon is the most crowded geothermal pool in Iceland, it is also the largest pool we visited. Since it’s so large, once you are through the line to check in, it doesn’t feel as busy. There are plenty of locker rooms, and the pool is split up so there is plenty of space for the crowd.

This was the most expensive pool we visited throughout our trip. The ticket we purchased was $82 USD however, the basic package is around $60 USD. There are a number of different packages you can purchase. We purchased the Premium Package. Make sure to purchase your ticket ahead of time as The Blue Lagoon sells out! We purchased our tickets about a month before arrival.

Blue Lagoon in Iceland
The Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Surprisingly, The Blue Lagoon was my favorite geothermal pool that I visited! I expected it to be totally touristy and overrated but I was so wrong!! We spent the last day of our trip at The Blue Lagoon and it was the perfect ending to an amazing trip in Iceland! It is so relaxing and there is so much to do there! I highly recommend making the trip :)

The goethermal pools of Iceland are absolutely incredible! I recommend checking out as many geothermal pools as you can throughout your trip as they are all vastly different from one another.
