Things to Know

Poland, also known as the Republic of Poland, is a country located in central Europe. It is bordered by the Baltic Sea, The Russian exclave know as Kaliningrad Oblast and Lithuania to the north, Belarus and the Ukraine to the east, Slovakia and the Czech Republic to the South and Germany to the west. The capital of Poland is Warsaw which is also known as Warszawa and is the country’s largest city. Poland receives around 20 million tourists a year all drawn to the country’s beautiful towns, deep culture and history.

Currency:

The official currency of Poland is the Polish Zloty. The currency code for the Polish Zloty is PLN and the sign is zł. You can find ATM’s and banks located all throughout the country. Credit and Debit cards are also widely accepted throughout the country.

Language:

The official language in Poland is Polish and spoken by much of the population. English is the most common second language spoken. When traveling throughout Poland, you will find that most of the younger generation all speak and understand English to some degree. It is still smart to download the language ahead of time incase you need some help translating. I recommend downloading the language in the Google Translate app prior to your trip.

When To Visit

Poland is a beautiful country full of history and culture that has something from visitors to do year-round. From Poland’s beautiful coastal towns along the Baltic Sea in the summer to the Christmas markets in its major towns during the holiday season, you cannot go wrong. Below is a breakdown of the different seasons in Poland and what each means if you visit during them.

The Peak Season: June to August

The Peak Season in Poland is June through August. These months bring the warmest weather and tend to draw large crowds especially to many of Poland’s towns located on the Baltic Coast. With the influx of tourists comes higher prices and less availability. Be sure to book in advance when visiting this time of year. The warm weather makes relaxing at the beach or exploring Poland’s coastal towns the perfect activity. In southern Poland you can expect warmer temperatures than the coastal regions that may make exploring a bit more difficult.

Shoulder Season: March-May and September-October

The shoulder season in Poland is arguably the best season to visit. The shoulder season is typically the months of March through May and September and October (Spring and Fall seasons). The weather is not as hot as the summer season and not as cold as the winter season making for a happy medium between the two seasons. The crowds of tourists are much less than the peak season making exploring many of Poland’s major attractions more enjoyable.

The Low Season: November to February

The low season in Poland is during winter. The winter season is the months of November to February. During these months, the weather can get quite cold and often drop below freezing. Tourism is also on the low end this time of year despite many of the Christmas festivals taking place in many popular towns. However, I enjoyed when I visited this time of year there is something about the polish Christmas markets serving pierogis and other popular dishes to give you the energy to explore all day. If you do not mind the cold, this could be a good time for you to explore Poland as well. However, we did notice several viewpoints and attractions being closed or having modified hours due to the winter season.

November 12th, 2017|

Wroclaw is such a unique town centered around the market square. I always love checking out lesser known towns, which is why I decided to add Wroclaw to my itinerary when exploring Eastern Europe. It was my first time to Poland so I honestly had no idea what to [...]
