When To Visit

Slovenia has a diverse landscape that experiences all four seasons. This makes choosing when to visit more difficult as each season brings a unique flare to this beautiful country. It is important to map out your trip and decide what you want to see or do ahead of time so you can determine what season is best for you. If you are looking to experience Piran and relax on the Slovenian coast, then the Summer/Peak season may be best for you. However, if you are looking to hike around Lake bled and view the vibrant colors of the trees rolling in the hills, then Spring or Fall will be the perfect fit for your trip. Below is an outline of what each season brings and what to expect.

The Peak Season: June to August

The peak season in Slovenia is from June to August and brings mostly sunny days with the occasional rain. This is a great time of year to visit and see Slovenia’s popular destinations and attractions. This is also a great time of year to visit Slovenia’s coastal region as the water is warm this time of year as well. As it is the peak season in Slovenia the number of tourists is greater during these months making for hotels and accommodations to be at a higher cost due to demand. It is recommended to book your accommodations and tours in advance to ensure they do not sell out.

Shoulder Season: April-May and September-October

The shoulder season in Slovenia are the months of April through May and September through October. This can be a beautiful time to visit the country as in spring the trees and plants are blossoming and in the Fall all the trees change colors making for colorful hillsides. There are less tourists visiting this time of year making visiting Slovenia’s museums and attractions easier. With the less demand also comes lower costs on hotels and accommodations.

The Low Season: November to March

The low season in Slovenia is from November to March and brings the coldest weather with it. The colder weather means the start of Ski Season in Slovenia sending locals and visitors to the Julian Alps to hit the slopes. Crowds in many of Slovenia’s popular towns are low and some restaurants, shops, and attractions even close or have limited hours for these months. Some main attractions that show up during the holiday season are the Christmas Markets in many of Slovenia’s towns that draw in locals and visitors to partake in the festivities.
