Located in Southern Croatia, Split is a popular destination for travelers to Croatia. While the city is on the Southern portion of the country it’s central to top travel destinations in Croatia. It’s a great location to visit due to the ease of traveling to incredible nearby beaches, towns, and parks. While the surrounding area is beautiful, I actually love Split Croatia as well. With Old Town at the center of town, and a promenade along the water it’s a beautiful place to walk and site see. If you’re headed to Split, this article focuses on hotels in Split to help you plan your trip.

While there are a number of hotels in Split, we’ve primarily used Airbnb in town and have had a great experience. As such, this article will focus mostly on Airbnbs but I’ll also give a few pointers and suggestions in choosing the right hotel in town.

SPLIT HOTELS

In looking for hotels in Split Croatia I really recommend finding something within walking distance of the Old Town. There is always so much going on in Old Town Split it’s a great place to be near. If you’re planning to do a lot of day trips from Split staying near the Old Town will allow you to come back and be able to enjoy the Old Town in the evening.

If you prefer booking with sites like booking.com I’ve linked a few suggestions below. I haven’t personally stayed in the accommodation below but they’re in a prime location and look very nice with reasonable pricing.

Booking:

AIRBNB SPLIT

As I mentioned, we primarily used Airbnbs in Split and have actually stayed in several Airbnbs in Croatia. I recommend using Airbnb in Split because most places listed were either in the city center or an easy walk into the city center. When talking with our first AirBnb host, we learned Airbnb’s are taking over the city. Similar to other big cities, locals are now renting out their places and moving a little further out the city center.

My recommendations below are geared toward budget travelers. I’ll be honest, we tend to be budget travelers but are also very particular so I use the term loosely. As a budget traveler, it’s hard to find nice clean accommodation that lives up to the photos online! I was really happy with both of our stays below and would recommend them to fellow budget-ish travelers.

RECOMMENDATION #1

Our first Airbnb was located off one of the alleys across from the promenade. While it was slightly further out than our second Airbnb, we actually preferred the location! The street leading to the Airbnb was adorable. It was filled with cute restaurants that felt a little less touristy than the restaurants on the Promenade or in Old Town near Diocletian’s Palace. It took about 5 minutes to walk to the Promenade and an additional few minutes to walk into Old Town.

The place itself is a very small studio with a kitchen. While the actual room is small, the place didn’t feel crammed at all and we had plenty of space! The room was kept very clean which is always a major plus in my book! Personally, my favorite part of the studio was the stone on the walls – I love that look because it just feels Croatian!

Booking: Guest House Babina – During our stay the apartment was $66 a night.

RECOMMENDATION #2

Our second Airbnb was located directly in the Old Town which was perfect for our stay. It took us maybe five minutes to walk to Diocletian’s Palace and explore the well known Palace in Split!

While we loved this charming little apartment, I will warn, it is probably not ideal for tall people. My friend and I were completely comfortable throughout our stay, however, the ceilings on the staircases are pretty low. The shower is also pretty small which would not be as practical for taller/ larger people. With that being said, this place was both clean and adorable! Our bedroom window opened up to the streets of Split which we loved. The apartment itself is so charming as it is split between three different levels. The first floor has a small kitchen, the second has a living room, and the third has a bedroom and bathroom.

Booking: Apartment Mira’s Dream – During our stay the Airbnb was $62 per night.

Here is a map of the main attractions in Split! If you are looking to stay somewhere that is walkable to a lot of things in Split, I recommend staying in the area below!

I hope you enjoy Split as much as I do! If you’re headed to Croatia see below for a few more articles to help you plan your trip.
