Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina will leave you in awe! Filled with history and culture this small town is honestly a great spot to explore. The Old Bridge, Stari Most is remarkable. Above all, my favorite thing about Mostar is the number of spectacular views of Stari Most. Trust me, you will not get sick of staring at the magical bridge.

The Ottomans built Stari Most in the 16th-century to connect the towns separated by the river. During the Croat-Bosniak War the Mostar bridge was destroyed. However, Stari Most was restored and rebuilt in 2004 using the same materials and technology as the original bridge.

Bridge Jumpers are one of the oldest and most unique traditions in Mostar! Local divers will hang around the bridge and once they make about 25 euros, they will jump! For safety reasons, visitors aren’t allowed to jump unless they’ve taken a lesson. There’s even an annual diving competition held from the bridge where men jump into the river.

Traveling to Mostar in Bosnia?

Since I love Mostar in Bosnia so much I’ve put together a list of the best views in town! They’re mostly centered around the Old Bridge since I can’t get enough of Stari Most :)

Don’t forget to pin this for later!

KARADJOZ-BEY MOSQUE

Visiting the Karadjoz-bey Mosque is an absolute must in Mostar in Bosnia! There are many Mosque’s in the area but Karadjoz-bey Mosque is the most beautiful. You’re able to go inside the mosque as well as climb the minaret for a panoramic view of Mostar. Once you climb to the top of the minaret, there is a spectacular 360 degree view of the city. I’ll warn you – it’s very close quarters in the minaret since the staircase is small and there isn’t much room at the top. However – the view is definitely worth it!

Price: 6 Euros to view mosque and minaret

STARI MOST FROM BELOW

Another one of my favorite spots in Mostar is viewing the bridge from below. There is a staircase in the Old Town that winds down to the river on the west side of town. The base of the river is a great spot to relax with a glass of wine and soak in the view. It’s also the perfect spot for a photo in front of the bridge! If you’re daring you can dip your feet in the water – but it’s quite chilly!

Next to the rocks are “stairs” which also have a great vantage point of the bridge! Be sure to check both spots out as the angles differ.

COFFEE SHOP

Before entering Stari Most, there’s a staircase leading to a coffee shop. The shop serves turkish coffee and lemonade. To clarify, there isn’t any signage for the coffee shop as it’s known by word of mouth. If you want an absolutely amazing view of the bridge jumpers, this is the spot! Since the cafe is above the bridge, you’re front row and center for the jumpers. Above all, it’s the perfect spot to hang out for a bit to watch the jumpers! I’ve been to this little spot twice now and have seen at least two jumpers both times! The first time I was there, a first time jumper jumped from the bridge which was incredible to watch. It appeared to be a locals spot while we were there and a few of the bridge jumpers came in after jumping.

Tip: Strike up a conversation with the owner of the coffee shop. Clarification: I’m not sure if he’s the owner but he’s been there both times I’ve visited. He’s extremely chatty and loves to talk about the way of life in Mostar in Bosnia. He’s full of great information.

RESTAURANTS

There are many restaurants lining the Neretva River offering incredible views of town. Some of my favorite views are Urban Grill, Bijeli Bar – Terasa, and Lagero. Urban Grill claims to have the best view of Stari Most in Mostar! However, it’s hard to say which one has the best view though as they’re all amazing. Bijeli Bar – Terasa is a rooftop bar on the East side of the town. The bar offers spectacular views of the bridge and surrounding mountains. Arrive relatively early, to grab a table front row. It’s a pretty mellow spot; perfect for sunset. Lagero is an excellent choice as well! In addition to the top notch view, the staff is friendly. My advice – find a restaurant on the water, order a drink, and enjoy the views of Stari Most!

MOSTAR OLD TOWN

Wander and explore Old Town, as it’s filled with gorgeous views of Stari Most. My favorite view of the bridge in town is in front of Restoran Labirint. Another great spot is just before walking onto the bridge on either side.

LUCKI MOST

Lucky most is outside of the Old Town. It’s a 5 minute walk from the town and has such a great vantage point. Since it’s a little further back you can get a great shot of Stari Most with the town in the frame. Therefore, it’s worth the few extra steps to soak in the bridge from this viewpoint!
