Bosnia and Herzegovina is a beautiful country located in Southeastern Europe that shares a border with Croatia to the North, East, and South, Serbia to the West, and Montenegro to the Southeast. The capital of the country is Sarajevo. Bosnia and Herzegovina was formerly a territory that comprised the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Following the dissolution of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Herzegovina was granted its Independence in March of 1992. Soon after their independence was granted, the Bosnian war started. The Bosnian war was a heavily ethnic routed war between the Bosniaks, the Serbs, and the Croats. The Bosniaks were the main victims in this war with the Serbs being the main perpetrators, but the Croats were also victims and perpetrators during the war. The war lasted 3 years until the official cease-fire treaty was signed in Dayton, Ohio in 1995. To this day, the country’s main ethnic groups are still the Bosniaks, The Serbs, and the Croats.

Currency:

The official currency for Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Bosnian Convertible Mark. The currency code is BAM and the Currency symbol is KM.

Language:

Bosnia and Herzegovina has three official languages. The three official languages are Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian. However, many locals speak English as well so communicating is easy.

When To Visit

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s tourism is beginning to grow as people begin to realize how beautiful the country is. The country’s weather has a mix of Mediterranean and continental climates depending on where you are visiting, and the weather can change drastically between the different regions. For example, if you are in the southern region that borders the Adriatic Sea, then you can expect to have a Mediterranean climate where the weather is warm and dry and the winters are milder than in other regions of the country that can call for a big change in the weather throughout the year. Below is a general outline of how the weather changes during different times of the year. If you are in other locations around Bosnia and Herzegovina, then you can likely expect the weather to vary greatly depending on the season with hot and dry summers and cold frigid winters. As with most destinations, the summers in Bosnia and Herzegovina tend to be the most crowded with the highest number of crowds. This is also when the weather tends to be at its hottest. In contrast, the winter months are cold and frigid but draw in fans of winter sports like skiing.
