If you’re traveling to Fiji, touring the Fiji Islands is an absolute must! The water is crystal clear making it perfect for swimming and other water activities. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking with islands in every direction.

Max and I found one of the best ways to explore the Islands in Fiji is by booking a tour. It’s honestly one of the best things to do in Fiji. After having so much fun on our tour with Whale’s Tale, Max and I decided to go on the Authentic Fijian Day Cruise which did not disappoint! While both tours cruise around the Mamanuca Islands, they are completely different from one another. I highly recommend both tours however, if you only have time for one, you cannot go wrong with either!

BOOKING

We booked the Authentic Fijian Day Cruise through Viator. The excursion was about $130 USD when we went & the pricing is still the same. This price includes pick up and drop off from hotels in the area as well as food and drinks for the day! We booked the tour about two days before going which luckily wasn’t an issue at all. With that being said, most of the other tours we looked at were not available so I do recommend booking in advance.

DEPARTURE

We did the Authentic Fijian Day Cruise on a layover in Fiji and it worked out perfectly! Our flight arrived around 5 am so we decided to head to Port Denarau before the tour. Port Denarau is the main port in Nadi Fiji and is filled with restaurants and shops. We got to the port around 8 am and were able to grab coffee and buy towels before our tour as some shops were open. We boarded a small boat and were ready to spend the day exploring the Mamanuca Islands Fiji! There were 8 people on our tour which made for a nice and small group! The tour allows for up to 15 people so the group will always be pretty small. There were three crew members on board and they were so friendly and attentive.

MAMANUCA ISLANDS

The best part about the Authentic Fijian Day Cruise is the tour takes you to three separate islands throughout the day! The tour cruises pretty far into the Mamanuca Islands Fiji which is full of epic views. Throughout the cruise the crew will bring around beverages while you relax and enjoy the views. The front of the boat has the most perfect spot to layout!

FIRST STOP

The first stop is at Mana Sand Island. The water is literally crystal clear, ideal for snorkeling! The boat will anchor near the island on the edge of the reef where everyone can hop out to snorkel. Snorkel gear is provided and they even offer floating noodles! For the record, I am not a huge snorkeler and I had a blast! The water was so warm and there were a ton of small fish. The reef was awesome and relatively colorful. After spending awhile snorkeling, everyone is able to swim to the island to hangout for awhile before heading to the second island.

Tips: We found the snorkeling to be much better on the Authentic Fijian Day Cruise than on the Whale’s Tale Tour we took the week before. The water was much clearer making the snorkeling that much better! With this being said, the snorkel gear provided is not the cleanest. If you have your own I highly recommend bringing it however, it is not necessary to bring your own.

SECOND STOP

The second stop isn’t technically an island but rather the boat is anchored near Monu Island which is more of a sea cove. Monu Island is so photogenic and totally different from Mana Sand Island. Once the boat is anchored, everyone is able to jump off and swim for awhile while the crew finishes preparing lunch on board. After swimming, it is time for some Fijian cuisine! Lunch consisted of chicken, a spinach bake, salad, fruit, and sweet potatoes. The food was delish!

Tip: Again, lunch and drinks are included in the initial tour price. If you are vegetarian/ vegan, definitely mention it throughout the booking process however, there are options for vegetarians.

THIRD STOP

The last and final stop will be at Modriki Island. Castaway was actually filmed on Modriki Island which is pretty cool! If you have watched the movie recently, you will definitely recognize the island. Modriki Island will be the longest stop throughout the day. The Fiji Island is pretty big with so much to do! You can spend your time snorkeling, swimming, laying out, or walking along the beach.

RETURN

After spending time on Modriki Island, it is time to head to back to Port Denarau. The cruise back goes by pretty quickly but you’ll pass by several Fiji Islands. Since you’ll be exhausted from the day you can sit back and enjoy the view! You will arrive back to port around 5 pm and transportation will be provided back to your hotel.

WHAT TO BRING

Definitely be sure to bring your camera on the Authentic Fijian Day Cruise! Since the snorkeling is so good on the tour, I also recommend bringing a GoPro or some sort of water proof camera! The Authentic Fijian Day Cruise provides lunch but does not offer breakfast or snacks throughout the day. I would recommend either eating before or bringing a snack or two with you. Make sure to bring your bathing suit, a towel and plenty of sunscreen. We reapplied are sunscreen nonstop and still ended up getting burnt so bring sunscreen!

Clearly, we loved exploring the Fiji Islands! We highly recommend booking a tour as we were able to see so much.
