There are so many places in the world that make for an epic honeymoon! Having done quite a bit of traveling, I’ve narrowed it down to 5 of my top honeymoon destinations. I’ve tried to include a destination for every type of traveler; the relaxer, explorer, and adventurer. With that, when traveling, my husband and I love a mix of relaxing at the beach, exploring, and hiking. While none of these locations seem like affordable honeymoon destinations, there is a way to do all of them on a budget!

And don’t forget to pin this for later!

MALDIVES

A Maldives honeymoon is hands down one of the best honeymoon destinations! With crystal clear water surrounding over a hundred resort islands; it’s paradise. After the stress of planning a wedding, it’s the place to unwind and decompress. If you’re the type of vacationer that enjoys spending the majority of your time in the water or soaking in the sun, head to The Maldives. The main activity consists of relaxing by the piercing turquoise waters however, there is plenty to do for more active couple. Aside from great snorkeling and diving, many resorts have a pool, water activities, and much more.

While accommodation is pricey, if you’re going to spend money on a resort, The Maldives is the place to do it. You’ll spend the majority of your time on the grounds of the resort making it worth the money. There’s nothing worse than spending a ton of money on a hotel only to spend the majority of your time out and about. There are hundreds of resorts to choose. We stayed at Velassaru and loved it! It’s reasonably priced for The Maldives and I can’t recommend it enough.

FIJI

If you’re looking for tropical honeymoon destinations, head to Fiji! Max and I still reminisce about how much we love Fiji. It’s such a special place with the most welcoming and friendly people. The second you land in Fiji, you’ll be welcomed with a warm “Bula” aka hello. Similar to The Maldives, a Fiji honeymoon includes the most exquisite blue water and gorgeous islands. Most visitors arrive to Fiji through Nadi which is on the largest island, Viti Levu. Port Denaru is a great base on the island as the beautiful Mamanuca Islands are a hop, jump, and a skip away.

While I can’t personally speak on the accommodation in Fiji, there are a ton of resorts close to Port Denaru. The accommodation ranges from backpackers hotels to fancy resorts. One of my favorite things about Fiji is the incredible excursions! I found their excursions to be reasonably priced as the tours we went on lasted about 8 hours. For around $100 USD you can take a boat trip through the Mamanuca Islands from Port Denaru. Most excursions include Lunch and drinks (including alcohol), some even include breakfast!

INDONESIA

Bali, Indonesia is my top choice for healthy food, culture, and incredible beaches. We spent the majority of our time in Bali so I’ll focus on a Bali honeymoon. The most popular spots to visit are Ubud, Uluwatu, Canggu, and Seminyak. My husband and I visited Ubud, Uluwatu, and Seminyak. Truth be told, I would skip Seminyak and go to Canggu. I recommend visiting at least Ubud and a coastal town such as Canggu or Uluwatu. Surrounded by rice terraces, Ubud is most well known for the monkey forest and yoga. Whereas the laid back coastal town of Uluwatu has cliff top restaurants and resorts. You’ll find healthy, trendy restaurants everywhere in Bali. My favorite thing about visiting the island is for approximately 33 USD you can hire a driver for the day. With so many places to see in Bali, rent a driver and explore the island!

While the ticket to Bali is pricey, it’s actually a cheap honeymoon destination. When planning your trip to Bali, you’ll notice accommodation is extremely reasonable. You can stay in a nice hotel for about 50 USD per night. If you’re looking to go all out, there are also some insane villas throughout Bali. Personally, I wouldn’t spend too much on accommodation. While there are some awesome places, there is so much to do in Bali, you don’t want to be tied to your hotel!

GREECE

If you’ve read some of my other posts, it’s no secret, I love Greece! It had been at the top of my bucket list for quite awhile and didn’t disappoint. It’s a great destination for honeymooners as there is something for everyone. For history buffs, you can spend a few days in Athens before heading onto the Greek Islands. A honeymoon in Greece includes some of the best views, hikes, and beaches. Foodies are in luck as you don’t have to search hard for incredible Greek cuisine! Best of all, it’s fairly inexpensive to travel around Greece! Accommodation can be pricey but food and transportation are cheap.

After visiting several islands in Greece, I have to say, Santorini is ideal for a Greece honeymoon. It’s honestly tough to beat between the views of the caldera and sunset in Oia. With that said, accommodation can be particularly pricey in Santorini. If you’re on a budget, think about spending a few days in Santorini and the rest of your time on one of the many islands nearby. Santorini is relatively small so it’s pretty easy to see in about three days. Naxos, Ios, and Paros are a quick ferry ride from Santorini and are great additions. Like most islands in Greece, they offer spectacular views, great food, excellent hiking and beaches.

ITALY

Italy makes my list of top honeymoon destinations because it has so much to offer. It’s is a beautiful destination, with a rich history and phenomenal cuisine. Similar to Greece, there is something for everyone in Italy. The country is filled with history as cities such as Rome, Florence, and Venice attract millions of visitors annually. Italy is also known for their wine scene from red wine in Tuscany to Prosecco in the Prosecco Region. The coast is colorful and flooded with quaint towns. The most popular coastal destinations are the Amalfi Coast, Portofino, and Cinque Terre. Northern Italy is mountainous with gorgeous mountain ranges such as the Dolomites. Some of the most popular islands in Italy are Sardinia and Sicily.

Since there’s a lot to see on an Italy honeymoon, set aside at least one week for your trip. With one week I would spend a few days in Rome before heading onto the Amalfi Coast or the Cinque Terre. Both areas are absolutely stunning however, I think the Amalfi Coast is slightly more romantic; perfect for honeymooners! If you’re headed to Florence, I recommend pairing your trip with the Cinque Terre and Tuscany. If you’re headed to Venice, the Prosecco Region and Dolomites are a great addition. No matter where you go in Italy, it won’t disappoint!

BONUS: CROATIA

Croatia is one of the more unique honeymoon destinations on my list! Croatia has become more popular in recent years, and for good reason as it’s absolutely stunning. Croatia offers everything from crystal clear waters to quaint small towns and fresh Mediterranean cuisine. Dubrovnik is the most well known city in Croatia; famous for it’s medieval old town overlooking the Adriatic Sea. While Dubrovnik is spectacular, there are many other coastal towns worth a visit. One of my favorite places to visit is Korcula Island, which is approximately a 2 hour ferry from Dubrovnik. The island is known for wine and adorable tasting rooms fill the Old Town of Korcula. Croatia is a fairly mellow place to visit with top notch beaches, history, and culture.

I recommend renting a car and spending at least a week exploring the country. I’ve found Airbnb to be the best way to travel through Croatia as it’s become increasingly popular! There are a ton of charming places listed for such a reasonable price. I suggest driving the coast during the summer months and heading inland during the winter months.
