Austria is a landlocked country located in central Europe and is officially known as the Republic of Austria. It spans for over 32,300 miles (83,800 km) and borders eight countries in total. These eight countries are Germany and the Czech Republic to the north, Slovenia and Italy to the south, Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west, and Hungary and Slovakia to the east.

Located in such a central location, Austria received over 46 million visitors in 2019 alone. These visitors visit for a variety of reasons including Austria’s museums and Palaces, hiking, the Austrian Alps, historic towns, and culture among many other reasons.

Currency:

The official currency in Austria is the Euro which is also used in many (not all) of the neighboring countries. This is helpful if you are traveling to multiple destinations throughout your stay.

Language:

The official language in Austria is Austrian German which is comprehensible to German with some differences in vocabulary and accent. English is also spoken widely across Austria as many students are taught English in school.

Austria is a beautiful country that receives visitors from all around the world throughout the entire year. There is something to offer visitors all year round and is equally as beautiful during its changing seasons. Below is a guide on the different times to visit and what you can expect.

Peak Season:

Peak season in Austria is typically from June to August. This is when you will have the warmest weather and the highest number of tourists wandering Austria’s many beautiful cities and attractions. The average high during this time of year is around 76 °F (24 °C) and the average low is around 56 °F (14 °C). With beautiful weather and an increase in tourists, you can generally expect prices to be a bit more expensive during this time of year.

Shoulder Season:

The shoulder season in Austria is from April to May and September through October. The weather is still excellent for outdoor activities and exploring while the crowds are much calmer than during the peak season in Austria. During this time of year, you can expect the average daily high to be around 57° to 68° F (14 ° to 20 ° C) and an average low between 39 ° to 50 ° F (4 ° to 10 ° C).

Low Season:

The low season in Austria is between November to March. Although this is deemed the low season in Austria, there is still so much to do. The Ski season in Austria is from mid-December to March and draws in tourists from all over the world.
